ME TARZAN, YOU JANE Exploring patterns in intimate relationships
Suzy Churchill, 14th March 2009 |
The Orangery, Merley, Wimborne | MAP
|
Price £65
| This workshop looks at some of the typical patterns that can develop in intimate relationships, and how we can work with them in therapy. Drawing on techniques from different therapeutic models Susy Churchill will focus on concepts such as: Complementary roles (Cognitive Analytic Therapy) Scripts, games and the drama triangle (Transactional Analysis) Personal myths (Narrative Therapy) Different types of love (Steinberg s Theory) These will be applied to some of the real life situations that clients present with, especially in couple work. Janine can t understand how she keeps ending up in relationships with men who are sympathetic and supportive when she first meets them, but then become controlling and jealous when her self-esteem has grown. Mark is feeling abandoned since they had their first baby. Darren is feeling threatened since his partner Paul started going to the gym. The workshop will be largely experiential, with work in small groups, some personal exploration, and role plays. |
Suzy ChurchillSusy Churchill has been a counselling therapist for over 20 years. Her interest in couples work grew out of working with women experiencing postnatal depression. Formerly the Programme Director for counselling and supervision at the University of Southampton, she now divides her time between independent practice, being Clinical Manager of an Employee Assistance Programme, occasional lecturing, and writing. |

MOTHERS, DAUGHTERS AND THERAPY Loving, connecting, separating & being yourself
Dr Moira Walker, 9th May 2009 |
The Orangery, Merley, Wimborne, BH21 3AA | MAP
|
Price £65
| The relationship between mother and daughter evokes powerful emotions and is influential throughout life. For many this is a treasured, sustaining and valued relationship; for others it can be problematic; and for many it may have aspects of both. This workshop will explore issues relating to the experience of being both a mother and a daughter and identify some of the patterns and themes that may be presented in therapy and are present in life. The day will integrate theory and practice, by looking at developmental theory (including feminist theory) and the social, political and cultural context, and will consider how this all relates to practice. Participants will be invited to consider their own work, especially the therapeutic alliance. |
Dr Moira WalkerDr Moira Walker is a registered psychotherapist and Fellow of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists, practising as a psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor. CARING FOR THE CARERS Managing the minefield of domestic violence
Dr Roxanne Agnes-Davies, 11th July 2009 |
The Orangery, Merley, Wimborne BH21 3AA | MAP
|
Price £65
| Mental health workers typically report that relationships with people who are victims of domestic violence are extraordinarily complex. The inter-personal aspects of the trauma, such as mistrust, betrayal, dependency and anger tend to be re-played within the professional relationship, however unintentionally. This workshop is designed to help professionals understand and identify the dynamics arising from work with victims of domestic violence, to address the issues with the client and to promote strategies for self-care and supervision when required. It also provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate achievements and reflect on challenges met at a personal and professional level. |
Dr Roxanne Agnes-DaviesDr Roxane Agnew-Davies is a Senior Research Fellow at London South Bank University. She is Mental Health Advisor to the Greater London Domestic Violence Project and Director of Domestic Violence Training Ltd, which has produced a series of DVDs on domestic violence and mental health. She is an independent trainer and therapist and a Cardiff University accredited expert witness. She is specialist advisor to the Victims of Violence and Abuse Prevention Programme in the Department of Health. |
